DiAngela Leather
140 Main Street   Greenport, New York

The DiAngela Leather store was the former Van's Hardware store as seen in the "before" photo, right. The original building was in disrepair, with a poorly lit retail space that was divided into small areas. The new owners--Ira and Patty Millman--wished to keep the basic appearance while enhancing it to conform to the surrounding structures in the Historic District of Greenport Village. They met with Architect Robert Brown and collaborated on the design of their new store with residence above.
Before Renovation--Old Van's Hardware Store
The resulting effort, shown below, is an attractive addition to Historic Main Street. The exterior is a series of raised panel sections and large display windows. The building is appropriately painted in historic colors that enhance the facade and mesh with the retail character of the Village. The new interior space is open, bright and light in its appearance and feel. The brick floors allow heavy retail traffic with no wear and easy upkeep while lending an old world feeling to a wonderfully inviting retail display of imported leather goods. We are currently working with the couple again, to further expand the living space above the corner store to accomodate their growing family.
